Working on flange connections (SOG)
Purpose Group
This course is designed for employees in industry who are responsible for opening and closing flange connections.
Learning Objective
The learning objective of the course is to safely and responsibly open and close flange connections with the correct tightening torque.
Theory
General basic concepts.
Legislation (Occupational Health and Safety Act).
Safety (general and specific safety rules).
Technical (flanges and flange parts, bolts, gaskets, pipeline assembly parts, equipment, fittings, jacking, tools and measuring instruments, method of opening and closing flange connections).
Practice
Preparation (safety rules, preparation for working with flanges).
Execution (work posture, use of equipment, tools and measuring instruments, disassembly, opening flanges, replacing gaskets, cleaning, alignment, tightening).
Completion (finishing and checking).
Ingang requirements
The candidate must be at least 18 years old. An exception is made for students taking the training as part of obtaining an entry-level qualification. A minimum age of 16 applies to them.
In addition, the candidate must hold one of the following diplomas: B-VCA, VOL-VCA, VIL-VCU, SCC-17 or SCC-18.
Exam languages
The SOG exam is available in Dutch, English, German, Polish, Portuguese and Romanian.
Course duration
2 days (4 day parts) (with a maximum of 16 participants).
Repetition: 1 day (2 half-days).
Diploma
According to the SSVV Training Guide (SOG).
Validity: 5 years.
Successful participants are registered in the Central Diploma Register: cdr.ssvv.nl

Flange Fitter Advanced (ELCONY)
Purpose group
The course is designed for experienced flange fitters who open and close flange connections according to protocol, using hand tools and a mechanical torque wrench. This course will cover in depth the following topics: specific work instructions, gasket pressure in relation to bolt forces, misalignment and lubricants, different working methods and the consequences of incorrectly assembled flange connections.
NAM (NAM: 50% Shell, 50% ExxonMobil)
For companies with VCA recognition, employees working on flange connections must hold a diploma from the SSVV Training Guide. NAM has an additional requirement that employees must also hold a diploma recognized by NAM. ELCONY is listed as an approved trainer in NAM’s “Work Instruction for Flange Connections. The diploma serves as proof of training and must be demonstrated upon request by NAM.

Methods of operation and application of mechanical and hydraulic tools.
Correct opening and closing of flange connections to specified values.
The relationship between gasket pressure, bolt forces, misalignment and lubricants.
Adherence to flange protocol.
Practice
Opening flange connections according to the prescribed flange protocol.
Checking gasket surfaces and bolts, and selecting appropriate gaskets.
Accurately aligning flanges and measuring any misalignment.
Properly sealing flange connections according to the prescribed protocol.
Applying the specified gasket pressure, both with and without the use of an electronic gasket pressure gauge.
Interpreting the applied gasket pressure, bolt force and any misalignment.
