Working with independent respiratory protection (SOG)

Target group

Employees who perform work in environments where the atmosphere is below SIR risk category B-3.

Learning Objective

To safely and effectively use environmentally independent respiratory protection.

Theory

General (basic concepts, limits and situations, emergency situations).
Legislation (Occupational Health and Safety Act and other legal provisions).
Safety (safety rules).
Professional technique (types of respiratory protection equipment and use).

Practice

Preparation: breathing apparatus (safety and hygiene rules, preparing for use).
Performance: breathing apparatus (Putting into use, Performing task, Checking residual pressure, Disposing of apparatus).
Preparation: breathing air line system (safety and hygiene rules, preparing for use).
Execution: breathing airline system (putting into service, performing assignment, taking out of service).

Exams

The SOG exam is available in Dutch, English, German, Polish, Portuguese and Romanian.

Entrance requirements

The candidate must be at least 18 years old. An exception is made for students taking the course as part of obtaining an entry-level qualification. A minimum age of 16 applies to them.
In addition, the candidate must hold one of the following diplomas: B-VCA, VOL-VCA, VIL-VCU, SCC-17 or SCC-18.

The candidate must not have obstructive facial hair or wear obstructive jewelry.

Medical fitness

It is the responsibility of the client (employer) that the candidate has a statement or endorsement showing that the holder is medically fit to work with independent respirators. Fitness to work with independent respiratory protection is required in both training and examination. The certificate is valid only in conjunction with the aforementioned statement or endorsement.

Exemption

The following certificates/diplomas provide exemption from the examination:
SIR Respiratory Protection Level B.
Register of Risky Tasks (BeSaCC): Working with independent (autonomous and non-autonomous) respiratory protection IS-081.

Course duration

2 days (4 half-days) (with a maximum of 16 participants).
Repetition: 1 day (2 half-days).

Diploma

According to the SSVV Training Guide (SOG).
Validity: 5 years.
Successful participants are registered in the Central Diploma Register: cdr.ssvv.nl

Working with independent respiratory protection (ELCONY)

Purpose Group

Employees who occasionally work in an environment where hazardous substances (vapors, gases) cannot be completely eliminated.

To use environmentally independent respiratory protection safely and effectively.
